Events

San Casciano dei Bagni stands on a hill in the beautiful scenario of Valdichiana in the province of Sien and it has been elected among the most charming borgos in Italy. At short distance from the Val d’Orcia and the Trasimeno and Bolsena lakes, this town is known today for its thermal baths. In fact, there are 42 thermal springs, whose waters are recommended for the treatment of rheumatic diseases. Walking through the streets of the historic center you can admire the imposing Turrito Castle in neo-Gothic style, the ancient churches and squares that offer breathtaking views over the surrounding valley. Tasting the local cuisine is a great pleasure and it shall include the excellent extra virgin olive oil, Chianti wine, Chianina, Cinta Senese, homemade pasta and truffles. The second weekend of June a food event is dedicated to a typical local dish called Ciaffagnone, a sort of pancake prepared following an ancient recipe. The Palio that takes place in San Casciano in August is one of the most important events to celebrate San Cassiano, the Saint who gives the town its name. On this occasion, the village is decorated in Renaissance style and the four districts of the country compete in old popular games. Not to be missed in the months of July and August the Palio of Siena where horses are the protagonists.
